Oklahoma Highway Patrol release dashcam footage of chase, standoff on Turner Turnpike

LUTHER, Okla. — New dashcam video released by Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) shows 32-year-old Charles Carswell shooting at troopers as they try to stop him.

OHP said Carswell was wanted for armed robbery out of Sedona, Arizona and was on the run through Oklahoma.

The chase started on April 2 in Oklahoma City where OHP said they tried to pull over Carswell, but he refused to stop. He led troopers on a chase along I-44, Kilpatrick Turnpike, and eventually ending on Turner Turnpike with a standoff that shut down traffic for hours.

Troopers disabled the suspect’s vehicle with a Tactical Vehicle Intervention maneuver (TVI) near Luther, Okla.

He got out of the vehicle with a rifle and started shooting at law enforcement until tactical units shot and killed him.

This is dash cam and body cam from the pursuit that ended on the Turner Turnpike on April 2. The suspect, Charles Carswell, led Trooper Brack Miller #950 on a pursuit and shot through his back windshield at Trooper Miller several times during the pursuit. Trooper Miller was able to successfully bring the pursuit to an end with a tactical vehicle intervention. Trooper Miller only suffered minor injuries. This portion of the event depicts initial shots fired at troopers. There was return fire by troopers. As with any use of force, that portion is still under investigation.
