One of all-time OU football greats arrested over weekend in OKC

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — One of the all-time University of Oklahoma football greats was arrested over the weekend in Oklahoma City.

Police said Tommie Harris refused to leave a downtown hotel after being kicked out. He is a big name for Sooner football fans.

He was a two-time all-American defensive lineman and three-time pro bowler in the NFL.

According to the police report, the trouble started Sunday night when a bartender at the Omni Hotel decided to cut Harris off and not serve him any more alcohol because he thought he’d had enough to drink.

Harris did not like that and according to police, when security asked him to go back to his hotel room, he refused. So, they told him to leave and that’s when police said he became aggressive toward their staff.

Officers were called. They said at one point, he agreed to leave the Omni, but then changed his mind, despite being told he would be arrested for trespassing.

Normally, police said it would entail being ticketed and released, but the officer said he was so intoxicated, they booked him into the Oklahoma County Jail.

The officer said Harris told him, “You don’t know who you are messing with. Governor Stitt will fire you. I’m playing golf with Governor Stitt in the morning.”
