Sea lion staying at Tulsa Zoo while habitat is built

Cash the sea lion moves into the Tulsa Zoo

TULSA, Okla. — More bark than bite, Cash the sea lion has moved in at the Tulsa Zoo.

Cash is a five-year-old California sea lion. The Tulsa Zoo said he is temporarily joining their male sea lions at Helmerich Sea Lion Cove while his own marine mammal habitat is built at the Oklahoma City Zoo.

Since arriving Tulsa Zoo officials say he is adjusting to his surroundings and getting to know the other two male sea lions, Cisco and Reyes, in the exhibit. They say things are going well and there has already been lots of playing and swimming together.

The Oklahoma City Zoo says construction on Cash’s permanent home will start in the spring of 2023. The expansion project will be home to its California sea lions, harbor seals and possibly other species.
