IDABEL, Okla. — A teenager is in custody after a homicide in Idabel, according to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI).
According to an OSBI social media post, the Idabel Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) requested OSBI’s help with the investigation of a homicide that took place around 4:30 a.m. on Dec 31, 2022.
OSBI said before the homicide, two teenagers in a group of teenagers got in a fight. One of the teenagers involved in the fight reportedly got a long rifle and fired shots into the air.
According to OSBI, a group of teenagers then got into a truck. As they were leaving, the teenager with the long rifle fired into the truck, hitting three teenagers.
OSBI said one of the teenagers was killed, another is being treated at a Texas hospital and the third had a graze wound.
According to OSBI, the suspect is in custody.
OSBI said because everyone involved is a minor, no names are being released at this time.
OSBI also said the investigation involves Native Americans and falls under the McGirt Supreme Court decision.
According to OSBI, they will be working with the FBI, the Idabel Police Department and the Choctaw Nation during the investigation.
