TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa Fire Department Investigators say Joseph Eckhart wasn’t just going to the bathroom.
“That is really bizarre and thankfully there was minimal damage and none of our employees were harmed,” said Aisha Jefferson-Smith, Corporate Communications Manager.
Security video shows him leaving the store after investigators say he was doing something dirty in the bathroom.
“He lit one of our trash cans in our men’s restrooms on fire,” said Jefferson-Smith.
Tulsa fire posted pictures and videos on Facebook and tips quickly came in.
Jefferson-Smith and fire investigators say he lit a trash can on fire in the men’s bathroom. He was caught on camera leaving the store.
QuikTrip employees at the location at 519 North Sheridan say it is not the first time someone has set something on fire in the bathroom. One employee gave FOX23 a picture of the toilet paper area on fire.
“This is a one off. This is bizarre at the point where investigators did their due diligence and found someone and had them in custody, we are extremely thankful to them,” said Jefferson-Smith.
She says cameras in all QuikTrip locations capture more than people think.
“At QuikTrip we have 24-hour surveillance you can hear and see what is going on at our locations 24 hours a day,” she said.
Eckhart was booked on First Degree Arson.
