The irons Woods used to win four consecutive major titles sold for a record $5,156,162.40 at Golden Age Auctions’ Spring 2022 Auction on Saturday night.

Bidding opened at $25,000, and 58 bids were submitted before the winning amount, which includes a buyer’s premium.

The name of the winning bidder was not immediately announced, Sports Collectors Daily reported.

The winning bid for the Titleist 681-T iron set broke the previously reported mark for golf memorabilia, ESPN reported. That was $682,000, which was paid for a green jacket worn by Horton Smith, who won the inaugural Masters in 1934 and captured it again two years later, according to the Golf Channel.

Todd Brock, a private equity investor from Houston, owned the clubs and said the money from the Golden Age Auction will go toward his foundation, ESPN reported.

Brock bought the clubs for $57,242 in 2010 when Steve Mata, the former Titleist vice president of player promotions, sold them at an auction, according to the sports network.

“I’ve had them for 12 years now, and I haven’t told anybody that I owned them. They were in a really nice frame in my office and I’m not an investor in memorabilia, so nobody was seeing the irons,” Brock told ESPN. “I’ve had the opportunity to see these for 12 years and it’s like a Rembrandt, where somebody takes it to their castle and it’s never seen again. I felt blessed that I got to hang out with them and look at them, but it’s time for somebody else to do something bigger and better with them.”

Woods is competing in a golf tournament for the first time since he was hospitalized in the aftermath of a single-car wreck on Feb. 23, 2021. He shot a 1-under-par 71 on Thursday, but followed with a 74 and 78. While he made the cut for the Masters, Saturday’s score was his worst at Augusta National.
