Tulsa police say husband tried to shoot wife at Tulsa International Airport

TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa police responded to reports of an active shooter at Tulsa International Airport (TIA) late Tuesday night.

Captain Jerrod Hart tells us TIA got a tip about a bad domestic situation, that started in Houston, Texas, was heading their way.

Hart says the husband had threatened serious harm to his wife when she landed back in Tulsa.

Upon landing, TIA police escorted the wife to her brother’s car, who was waiting to pick her up.

At that time, Cpt. Hart says the husband ran out of a nearby parking garage and fired multiple rounds at his wife and her brother. The wife and brother were able to escape without injury.

Airport police then chased the suspect back into the parking garage he ran out of and a gun battle ensued.

Cpt. Hart says a TIA officer was shot in the chest during that fight, but is expected to be okay thanks to his bulletproof vest.

The husband was shot in the foot and was taken to the hospital. Police say he will receive surgery then be taken into custody.

Cpt. Hart tells us the wife and her brother are being interviewed to get more information.

Bystanders in a nearby airport transit were struck by shrapnel from the shots that were fired, but suffered no serious injuries and are expected to be okay.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
