BIXBY, Okla. — People living in Lake Bixhoma Estates finally have water after 11 days.
Officials brought in an interim booster pump station and started disinfecting, flushing and reconnecting meters to the system.
Amy Southerland is breathing a sigh of relief.
“After 11 days of no water we finally have water back on,” said Southerland.
Southerland has livestock including llamas, goats, sheep and chickens. As soon as the water started flowing she started trying to get back to normal.
“Within one hour we started getting some laundry done, the dishes that had piled up are starting to get washed, animals are going to get cool water,” said Southerland.
She said not having water has cost her thousands because she’s had to buy tanks to carry water from the pumps, she also said she lost some of her chickens to the heat and some of her landscaping died.
“It’s been tough in the mornings, I’m washing my hair out of the back of an IBC tote out of the back of a truck in my front yard before I go to work. It’s been obviously been tough on the animals out here, they’re relying on that cold water,” she said.
“We had just put in a lot of nice new landscape this spring and we’ve lost well over half of it already, and so that was a big financial hit because we couldn’t get water to it,” she continued.
Even though the water is back – she said she and her neighbors are still extremely frustrated with the communication they’ve had from the city.
“It’s been 11 days without water and not once have we heard from the city manger, not once...This was an emergency situation and not to be hearing from the leadership of the city has been extremely disappointing at best,” Southerland said.
But for now, Amy is happy she can water her animals and turn on the faucet.
People had to be present had their homes to be reconnected with the water, meaning anyone who was out may still not have water.
The number for the re-connection service is 918-366-8294.
There is also a boil order in place, so people still have to boil the water coming out of their faucets until the 26th.
The showers and restrooms that the city brought in will also stay in place throughout this week.
