MUSKOGEE, Okla. – Muskogee County officials are sharing new details about the two Google data centers coming to the area, announced by the company last Thursday.

The data centers are part of Google’s $9 billion, two-year investment plan for Oklahoma.

FOX23 spoke with Muskogee County General Counsel John Tyler Hammons about how the project will impact the community. Hammons said local schools, businesses, EMS services and the broader community will see significant benefits, including expanded services and hundreds of local jobs during and after construction.

The two Google data center campuses will be built near Council Hill and Summit in Muskogee County. Google says the facilities will help meet growing demands for AI-powered services.

As part of the project, Google is contributing $1 million to the Muskogee community to revitalize small businesses, support school districts and fund skilled-trades training to boost job readiness.

Google is also partnering with OG&E to cover the cost of infrastructure and power-grid upgrades needed to generate more electricity for the data centers.

Hammons told FOX23 the project represents one of the largest private investments in the county’s history and demonstrates the community’s readiness for a project of this scale.

“Every taxing entity in Muskogee County had to unanimously agree to this in order for this project to happen. Even if one held out, this project wouldn’t have gotten off the ground,” Hammons said. “The fact that every taxing entity in Muskogee County agreed to this project is proof that everyone recognized this project is for not only present Muskogee County, but the future of Muskogee County.”

Hammons said phase one of construction has already begun on both campuses. He did not have a projected completion date. FOX23 has reached out to Google for an estimated timeline and will update when we receive one.
