Former Oklahoma State Representative Bruce Niemi passes away

TULSA, Okla. — Former State Representative Bruce Niemi has passed away at age 76.

In a statement shared to social media, Tulsa Mayor Monroe Nichols highlighted the life and work of Niemi, saying he was “a dedicated public servant and an incredible human being” who “devoted his life to strengthening communities through service.”

 

Niemi is remembered for his dedication to his community. Niemi served in several capacities over the course of his life and career.

He served in the Oklahoma House of Representatives from 1991 to 1993.

Niemi was a Tulsa native and cared deeply for his community. During his career, he served on the Tulsa County Election Board, as the chair of the Tulsa County Democratic Party, as city manager, and most recently on the MTTA Board of Trustees.

Niemi was also an educator. He held the belief that public institutions exist to better the lives of people. 

“On behalf of the City of Tulsa, I want to extend my condolences to Bruce’s family, friends, and the many colleagues who worked alongside him over the years. Tulsa is better for his service, and his impact will continue to be felt across the agencies and communities he helped strengthen,” said Mayor Nichols.
