Around 11:00 p.m. on Nov. 14, OHP said they received reports of a car driving the wrong direction on the Creek Turnpike.

OHP said they sent a trooper to the area who observed the car driving the wrong direction on the turnpike through a closed off construction zone.

The trooper said he turned on his lights and siren before placing his patrol car in front of the oncoming car to get the driver to stop.

Instead of stopping, the car continued to drive and hit the trooper’s patrol car.

Thankfully, the trooper wasn’t hurt and made contact with the driver.

Troopers conducted several field sobriety tests and determined the driver of the car was intoxicated.

The driver was arrested and taken to the hospital for evaluation. After being released from the hospital, she was booked into the Tulsa County Jail.

The driver was charged with Aggravated Driving Under the Influence, Improper Driving on a Divided Highway and Failure to Carry Insurance Form.

OHP said they’re relieved this incident didn’t result in serious injuries, but said that’s often what happens as a result of drunk driving crashes.

The agency stated, “A trooper’s patrol unit is a vital tool of the trade, and we are thankful that in this case, the only damage was to a patrol vehicle. We have responded to countless crashes where lives were lost because of decisions like this. If you choose to drink, do not drive. Today, there are more options than ever to get home safely, including ride share services, designated drivers and traditional taxis. Making one safe decision could mean the difference between life and death for you or someone else.”
