OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — The Oklahoma Supreme Court has dismissed a lawsuit challenging former State Superintendent Ryan Walters’ Bible mandate.

The lawsuit was filed against Walters and the Oklahoma State Department of Education seeking to block social studies standards. Plaintiffs say they unconstitutionally promoted Christianity to public school students.

Walters planned to use state funds to buy and distribute “God Bless the USA” Bibles to every classroom.

Back in September, the State Supreme Court ordered a stay on those standards, preventing Walters and the state from enforcing them or spending money on their implementation.

Since then, Walters resigned and his successor, Superintendent Dr. Lindel Fields formally dismissed the mandate last month.

With the plans no longer moving forward, the State Supreme Court ruled Monday the lawsuit should be dismissed.
