Some Sand Springs residents aren’t happy about a new 800-acre data center called “Project Spring” being considered by the city, but talks about the center have been tabled for now.
A large-scale data center, located near HWY 97 and 56th Street North could be a reality, but some residents are upset about the amount of resources the data center could use, including the water and energy needed to cool the center.
Sand Springs City Manager Mike Carter told KRMG they are still receiving data on water and energy usage.
“Some of the information people would like to see has not been available. They don’t have it yet, like ‘what would water usage be?’ Things like that,” Carter said.
Carter also said the franchise tax collected from the center could generate a lot of money for the city and could be used to fund future projects.
“It’s the franchise tax that was just passed by our citizens. That would mean a considerable amount of income to the city of Sand Springs,” he said.
