New multi-use development planned near Pine and Peoria in north Tulsa

By Steve Berg

Tulsa could be getting some much-needed new housing in a plan, led by Habitat for Humanity, to create a new neighborhood on 19-acres of vacant land northwest of Latimer Street and Utica Avenue in north Tulsa.

That’s near Pine and Peoria.

Habitat for Humanity is collaborating with a commercial developer and a multi-family housing expert to create a mixed-use area.

City planners say that would include light-use commercial business, such as restaurants and small shops, fronting Utica.

City councilors were told during a Wednesday committee meeting that there’s room there for around 300 housing units, that would include everything from multi-unit apartment houses, to townhouses, to single-family homes.

The parcel is a vacant industrial site, but a city planner told councilors it’s surrounded by neighborhoods, so it makes sense for residential use.

The Council will need to approve land-use and zoning changes.
