Traffic changes planned for south Tulsa construction

By Fox23.com News Staff

TULSA, Okla. — The City of Tulsa announced lane changes will be made on Monday as part of the East 91st Street widening project.

Traffic on East 91st Street between South Memorial Drive and South Mingo Road will be redirected to the northbound lanes, allowing for one lane in each direction.

The City said as part of the changes, two entrances to the neighborhood south of East 91st Street at South 85th East Avenue and South 89th East Avenue will be closed.

The project is widening East 94st Street between South Memorial Drive and South Mingo Road to five lanes, as well as adding bike lanes and sidewalks on both sides of the street.

The City said additional improvements include:

  • Milling the roadway, which involves removing the old surface, repairing and adding areas where needed and paving with new asphalt.
  • Extension of the stormwater box under East 91st Street.
  • Traffic light upgrades.
  • Installing new 100-year flood stormwater drainage systems.
  • Upgrading waterlines to improve service reliability.

Blue business access signs are posted to guide traffic to businesses in the area and individual message boards are placed at affected neighborhood entrances.

Tulsans are encouraged to continue supporting local businesses near construction zones rather than avoiding these areas, the City said.

The City contracted with Tri-Star Construction for this $12,800,000 Improve Our Tulsa 2 project.
