INDEPENDENCE, Kan. — Independence Fire-EMS responded to a car fire near a home on North 10th Street on Monday.
According to firefighters, around 11:58 a.m. they arrived on scene to find a car fully engulfed as well as a riding lawnmower, nearby leaves and grass debris near the home.

Firefighters said the wind pushed the flames into the house. Luckily, they were able to stop the fire from spreading and extinguished the fire.

No injuries were reported and firefighters were able to rescue a dog and two parrots from the home.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
