TULSA, Okla. — Sober Girls Tulsa is inviting the community to come out and join them for their events during Dry January.

“Sober Girls Tulsa is for women to have a safe space to do events that are not centered around alcohol,” said Danay Jones, the Founder of Sober Girls Tulsa. “It’s just a safe space where you can come out and have a good time…As you know, everything is pretty much alcohol centered, especially if you’re going out and socializing. With Sober Girls, we make sure you feel safe, safety in numbers. We’re all there. We’re all here to support each other in staying sober and staying safe.”

Jones said participating in Dry January is a great way to test what being sober might feel like for you.

“Dry January is fun. It’s really interesting, especially for people who may be sober curious. They’re looking to try and see what that lifestyle will be like. We always have a lot of new members that are sober curious that want to come out and try mocktails and see what that life is like to be social and not to be wasted, just enjoying it and being present with everyone that’s around you.”

Jones explained some of the events Sober Girls Tulsa is planning for January.

“For Dry January, there are plenty of events around the city. Tulsa is so lucky to have such a large sober population and accommodations from different businesses and restaurants…We’ll be doing Elote Drag Brunch where, if anyone’s interested, they can still sign up through Instagram. On the 17th, we’ll also be doing self care kits. We’ll be going to Wick & Flame to make candles and self care is always the best way. Also, there are events every Wednesday this month at Nothing’s Left Brewery that are sober centered.”

Every woman interested in being sober is welcome to join the group and socialize.

“We have such a range of women that come to our events. It’s across the board. We have mothers who are empty nesters who notice they’ve been drinking more than usual [and] want to try something else. Then we have women that are in active addiction or were in active addiction and are now sober and are looking for sober friends, and sober curious. It’s all across the board. It’s all different kinds of women who see this as a safe space and come join us.”
