Five arrested on drug charges in Montgomery County, Kansas

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Kan. — The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office says they have arrested 5 people on drug charges in Kansas.

According to deputies, on December 24 they located a stolen 2012 Hyundai passenger vehicle that was originally reported stolen from Wichita at a residence in Cherryvale, Kansas.

Deputies obtained and conducted a search warrant for the residence and property. During the search, they saw drug paraphernalia in plain view inside the residence. Deptuies then obtained an amended search warrant for narcotics. During that search, they found more than three grams of methamphetamine along with more drug paraphernalia and items used for distribution.

Rachel McKenzie, of Cherryvale, was taken into custody and transporterd to the Montgomery County Department of Corrections. She was booked for distribution of paraphernalia and possession of drug paraphernalia.

On January 3, a traffic stop was conducted by deputies on a maroon Mercury Grand Marquis at the intersection of 10th and Walnut Street in Independence, Kansas. Deputies contacted the driver, Breeanna Conard of Independence, and informed her of the reason for the stop. Deputies said they developed probable cause to search the vehicle.  During the search, they found over six grams of methamphetamine, a small amount of cocaine, several pills and drug paraphernalia.

Conrad was taken into custody and transported to the Montgomery County  Department of Corrections. She was booked for distribution of methamphetamine, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, no proof of vehicle insurance, and improper emerging from an alley, private roadway, or building.

Later on the same day, deputies performed a traffic stop on a Saturn passenger vehicle at the exit ramp from U.S. 400 to U.S. 75 Highway, north of Sycamore, Kansas. Deputies say the vehicle had three people inside it. A search was conducted on it and deputies said they located over nine grams of methamphetamine, over six grams of suspected carfentanil, pills, and drug paraphernalia. The driver, Heather Leach, along with Tyler Norton and Noah Daniel, all of Independence, were taken into custody and transported to Montgomery County Department of Corrections.

Leach was was charged with distribution of fentanyl, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to stop or yield at a stop sign, and no proof of vehicle insurance.

Norton was charged with distribution of fentanyl, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Daniel was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of a depressant, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
