OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — With winter weather expected to hit the state this weekend, OG&E is preparing for the extreme weather.
They state that their power plants are operating and ready to support the grid.
They are also providing tips on how people can withstand the cold weather.
When dealing with roads, they advise to stay home if at all possible. But if you must go out, check road conditions and sign up for alerts by going here.
They advise people to wear layers, waterproof and insulated boots, mittens (or gloves) and a hat.
OG&E says to make sure your emergency kit is stocked and readily available. Make sure you have things such as flashlights, bottled water and portable chargers.
They also say to have a safety plan for people. Be sure to check on vulnerable family, such as the sick or elderly, friends, neighbors and pets. Be sure to bring them inside from the cold. Managing energy consumption
If you are cautious on how much energy you use around the house, OG&E is also providing tips to help conserve They say to:
- Set thermostats one or two degrees lower, if health permits
- Open drapes and blinds during the day to allow sunlight to help warm the home. Close them at night to keep the warmth
- Use a microwave oven, slow cooker, or air fryer instead of a conventional oven
- If washing dishes, air dry them
- Turn off appliances that are not in use
- Unplug small appliances, phone chargers, and gaming systems when not in use
