WAGONER COUNTY, Okla. — Deputies are warning of a phone scam that is circulating Wagoner County asking for residents’ personal information.
The Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office has received multiple reports of callers impersonating members of its agency in an attempt to deceive residents into giving up personal information.
The scammers is trying to receive addresses, date of births and identifying information of citizens.
WCSO said the scammers is identifying himself as Sergeant John Davis with the Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office. WCSO does not have a deputy with that name.
The phone number associated with the scam calls is 576-485-1221.
WCSO said it wants to make clear that it will never call and demand payment over the phone, threaten arrest or request money, gift cards, wire transfers or any form of payment by phone.
Scammers are using personal information to sound legitimate and create fear or urgency, WCSO said.
WCSO said if you receive a similar call to:
- Hang up immediately
- Do not provide information
- Do not send money
- Report the call to the Wagoner County Sherriff’s Office as soon as possible
Residents are urged to stay vigilant and to share this reminder with family and neighbors. Check on elderly or vulnerable individuals who may be targeted by the scam.
