OWASSO — A skating rink held its monthly Sensory Skate for people that might prefer to skate with a more calming environment.
“We do our Sensory Sunday because there’s definitely a need in the community for it.” says Tammy Johnson, co-owner of Wheels and Thrills.
Johnson says that during Senory Sunday, the lights stay at a solid blue as it is a calming color. There are no flashing lights, the arcade games are not on and laser tag is suspended. There are also separate centers such as rice bucket centers and sensory feelings on bead.
“We do it the first Sunday of every month, unless it’s a holiday. We never know if we’re going to have 20 people or just one. So it’s just a place to come and relax as the family can sit and play. Our rules are very lax during that session due to the needs of just whoever is here.” says Johnson.
Wheels and Thrills is located at 10637 North Garnett Road in Owasso.
