OWASSO, Okla. — The Oklahoma Department of Transportation has now scheduled Monday, February 16th, as the official starting time for the project to widen U.S. Highway 169 between 66th Street North and 86th Street North, just a little under two weeks from today.
Highway 169 will go from two lanes each way to three lanes each way.
Because the lanes are being added to the area of the existing median, ODOT’s T.J. Gerlach says they’ll be able to keep all existing lanes open during weekday rush hours.
“Full lane closures will be limited to nights and weekend,” Gerlach said. “So we shouldn’t have anything going during rush hour periods, so we can keep those two lanes open to help traffic flow as much as possible.
He said motorists should keep in mind that, even though the lanes will be open, speed limits will be reduced slightly while the project is going on.
The project is slated to take about six months.
