Ribbon-cutting held for new artificial turf fields at Nienhuis Park

By Steve Berg

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — Broken Arrow today held a ribbon-cutting celebration for a $1.58 million improvement project to Nienhuis Park.

The natural grass on two of the four full-size football fields in the sprawling sports complex at the popular park has now been replaced with high-quality, artificial turf.

All four full-size fields at the popular sports complex now have artificial turf.

The other two fields were converted to artificial turf in the past, thanks to the 2014 GO Bond, city officials said.

City officials say the durable material will allow for more consistent and reliable scheduling for games, as well as what they believe will be safer conditions for the players.

The Nienhuis fields get heavy use by youth, from kindergarteners all the way to high school seniors, for everything from football to lacrosse to cheerleading.

The project was paid for with money from the 2018 GO Bond.
