TULSA, Okla. — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in collaboration with America250, donated a semi-truck full of food to the Tulsa Day Center and Broken Arrow Neighbors.

America250 is a nonpartisan congressional commission that works to engage Americans in celebrating the nation’s 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The Church said it is collaborating with America250 on initiatives focused on building common relationships, discovering family history, and increasing community service.

As part of this initiative, a semi full of food was delivered to the Tulsa Dream Center on Wednesday morning. Missionaries helped volunteers and employees unload the food and repalletize so that it could be shared and delivered to another local nonprofit, Broken Arrow Neighbors.

“We have just been honored to have this semi-load of food come right here to the Tulsa Dream Center,” said Tim Newton, executive director of the Tulsa Dream Center. “It’s going to serve so many people.”

Newton said Tulsa Dream Center has collaborated with the Church for several years.

“We have had a partnership with the Latter-day Saints for a few years. Almost five years of them being able to provide food for us and even clothing at times, here at the Tulsa Dream Center. So just showing the greatness of our city and really our nation, this truck came all the way from Utah,” Newton said.

Newton said a portion of the food will be shared with Broken Arrow Neighbors.

“We partner with Broken Arrow Neighbors to give half of the load to them. The rest will go out to our families that we serve every Tuesday and Thursday here at our north campus as well as our west campus,” Newton said.

Newton said over 20 pallets of goods were delivered.

“It was everything from applesauce, mac and cheese, syrup to even dish detergent for your dishwasher,” said Newton. “So it’s a lot of different items that we’re able to have and it brings great quality of food that we’re able to bring in for our families. We really value the partnership that we have with them because of the quality of the food, we’re able to give people the very best and that’s what it’s all about.”
