City holding public meeting tonight on 91st St. improvements

TULSA, Okla. — The City of Tulsa is inviting people to a public meeting tonight where they can learn more about the improvement project on 91st Street between Harvard and Yale, which starts on Monday.

Tulsa City Councilor Phil Lakin says one of the biggest changes will be larger culverts at the two creek crossings on 91st, which means the roadway can extend further north.

“That extension will be able to accommodate a sidewalk that will now run continuously between Harvard and Yale,” Lakin said.

Right now, there are small gaps in the sidewalk between Yale Ave. and Toledo Ave. and no sidewalk at all for the roughly one-third mile between the entrance to Jenks East Intermediate School and the entrance to Jenks East Elementary School.

Lakin says that results in an obviously hazardous situation where pedestrians are walking on the grass next to the road or on 91st Street itself to cross the creek, so he says the sidewalks will provide a dramatic improvement in safety.

Besides the larger culverts and the addition of sidewalks, Lakin says they’ll be doing an extensive resurfacing to the roadway, working on the waterlines in the area, and making drainage improvements.
