OKLAHOMA — Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) said their K9 Elvis is set to receive a donated body armor vest to keep him safe out in the field.
The vest is bullet and stab protective, making it a potentially lifesaving piece of equipment for K9s actively working in the field with law enforcement.
The vest was donated by nonprofit Vested Interest in K9s and sponsored by Rebecca Paynter from Cottonwood, Arizona.
Elvis’ vest will be embroidered with the words “Born to Love-Trained to Serve-Loyal Always.”
Elvis is a one year and nine month old Belgian Malinois and has been working with OHP since Oct. 2025. He’s specifically trained in narcotics detection, criminal apprehension, tracking and evidence recovery.
Since his start in law enforcement, OHP said Elvis has already helped discover 85 pounds of methamphetamine and 122 pounds of illegal marijuana.
Elvis is expected to receive his protective vest within 10 weeks.
Vested Interest in K9s provides National Institute of Justice certified vests to K9s across the United States.
A donation of $1,050 will sponsor one vest for a K9, though the organization said they accept donations of all amounts to put towards providing vests for K9s.
