Tulsa Police arrested 25-year old Jamalo Bruner Jr. in connection to a 2019 murder, where Benjamin Montgomery was shot and killed after several men broken into his apartment.

Tulsa Police Lt. Brandon Watkins says, the men were attempting to rob a known drug dealer in the parking lot of an apartment near 101st and Sheridan and tried to force the man to his upstairs apartment, but they chose Montgomery’s instead. Lt. Watkins tells KRMG, the men could not access the drug dealer’s apartment and Montgomery’s apartment door was open so they chose to rob him.

“The apartment of Ben Montgomery’s was open already and they just decided to rob that party instead,” Watkins said.

Montgomery was hanging out with friends and was shot in the chest attempting to subdue one of the suspects.

In 2025, suspects Jerrell Jones and Devyn Smith were arrested and charged with first degree murder. Bruner, who is native, was recently arrested on a complaint of first degree murder and his case will be handled federally.
