Non-violent felons would get gun rights restored under new bill

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — A bill that’s currently working its way through House committees at the State Capitol would give back gun rights to convicted, non-violent felons.

HB 4125 essentially states that if a non-violent felon keeps their record clean and commits no additional crimes for five years after their sentence ends, they would once again have the right to own a firearm.

Right now, state law bans them from having a gun ever again, violent crime or not.

The bill was approved by the House Civil Judiciary committee by a large margin and now goes on to the House Oversight Committee before it potentially goes to a full vote on the House floor.
