Strong storms ripped the roof off the Tulsa Tech building near 36th Street North and Peoria in Tulsa, and caused extensive damage to the campus Friday night.
Large sheets of metal are wrapped around trees, large trees are uprooted, and clumps of yellow insulation are scattered across the entire campus.
Tulsa County Under Sheriff George Brown walked through the building to assess the damage and said it is devastating.
” It hit kind of central on the roof, tearing inside paneling, bricks, complete walls are missing.”
Officials said the north Peoria campus closed at 4 pm yesterday, so there were no students in the building.
Administrators are trying to figure out where they are going to send the approximately 550 students and 55 staff members who attend the Peoria campus.
This campus is one of 6 Tulsa Tech campuses, and students and staff will be sent to the 5 other campuses.
Jeff Kemper with Tulsa Tech says this campus is going to be in secure mode for the foreseeable future.
