STILLWATER, Okla. — The former First Assistant District Attorney for Payne and Logan Counties, Kevin Etherington, has been found guilty of being in possession of child sex abuse material.

On Sept. 1, 2022, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children sent several cybertips to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation Internet Crimes Against Children Unit (ICAC) for child sexual abuse material.

OSBI special agents named 56-year-old Kevin Etherington as a possible suspect during the investigation. During that time, Etherington served as the Payne and Logan Counties First Assistant District Attorney.

On Nov. 28, 2022, Etherington was arrested at his home after OSBI ICAC agents executed a search warrant. He was taken to the Payne County Jail on charges of aggravated possession of child pornography and violation of the Oklahoma Computer Crimes Act.

A Payne County jury found Etherington guilty on one count of aggravated possession of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography on March 5, 2026.

The jury recommended Etherington serve 20 years and be fined $20,000. He will return to court for sentencing on May 8.
