Beggs Public Schools announces closure this week due to EF-3 tornado damage from this past weekend

By Kirk McCracken

BEGGS — Due to the recent EF-3 tornado that ripped through the town, administrators for Beggs Public Schools have decided to close school for this week.

In a statement posted on social media, the school said the closure will allow time for assessment, clean-up, and recovery efforts to ensure the safety of the students and staff. Several buildings were destroyed, and the school’s fleet of buses was damaged. Only one route bus out of the entire fleet of buses is still operable.

Beggs will also remain closed during Spring Break, and classes are expected to resume on Monday, March 23. The softball and baseball fields were completely destroyed, and the middle school will be unused for the rest of the school year. The electrical system and the fiber lines for the network were damaged, and a gas line was pulled out of the ground.
