Tulsa Police: Man admits to killing terminally ill person to ‘put him out of his misery’

By Kirk McCracken

Tulsa Police were called out to a residence near East Latimer Street and North Gary Place yesterday for a reported death.

Police found 88-year old Steven Norman with suspicious marks around his neck consistent with strangulation. Norman had been diagnosed with terminal cancer as well as other serious illnesses.

After police questioned witnesses in the home, they say the evidence did not match the initial accounts, and 25-year old Jacob Dake was arrested for Norman’s murder.

Police say Dake initially claimed it was an accidental death but then allegedly admitted to killing Norman to “put him out of his misery.”

Dake is a tribal member and falls under the McGirt ruling. Detectives will turn the case over to the FBI and Tribal Authorities for further investigation.
