TULSA, Okla. — City and community leaders discussed the upcoming $609 million Tulsa Public Schools bond election at a press conference on Thursday.

The bond’s funds are set to be allocated in the following ways:

  • $200 million – Infrastructure materials, fine arts, and athletics
  • $276 million – Building improvements and safety upgrades
  • $104 million – Technology needs
  • $27 million – Transportation

Former Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum explained why he’s in favor of the bond.

“We can continue to provide our kids with these opportunities without raising our taxes,” explained Bynum. “This is simply continuing the funding that Tulsans have approved before that is giving kids opportunities today so that we can give future Tulsa students similar great opportunities.”

Jessica Lowe-Betts, who is the mother of a freshman who just started at Booker T. Washington High School, said she and other parents are excited to support the bond.

“I think we all believe in Tulsa Public Schools. We all believe in Dr. Ebony Johnson. I think we all believe in the education that our students are getting and because of that, many people want to support and I think this is a way that we can all rally behind that and be supportive.”

The bond election is scheduled for April 7.
