TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa Police Department arrested a man for failing to appear in court after officers worked for several hours to take him into custody on Wednesday afternoon.
On Feb. 13, officers responded to a crash near 47th and South Fulton Avenue. TPD said a pickup truck rolled backward through a fence while 43-year-old Earl Mooney was asleep in the driver’s seat.
Officers spoke with Mooney, who said he fell asleep in his truck after a night at a bar.
TPD said Mooney was no longer intoxicated, but officers found a gun in the truck. Mooney is reportedly a convicted felon and is prohibited from having guns.
Officers arrested Mooney for possession of a firearm after a previous conviction for a felony. Police said Mooney failed to appear for court after posting his bond, which resulted in a warrant being issued for his arrest.
On Wednesday afternoon, a warrant was served at a home near Marshall Street and North Sheridan. TPD’s Special Operations Team responded to the scene after officers made several attempts to get Mooney to exit the home.
About three hours later, Mooney surrendered after officers used several tactics, including pepper balls.
TPD said Mooney will be booked into the Tulsa County jail.
