OSU said in his three seasons at North Texas, Morris took his team from a 5-7 record in his first year to 10-1 this season.

Morris’s selection is pending board approval, Oklahoma State Director of Athletics Chad Weiberg said.

The university said his hire marks the first time since 1969 that the Pokes have hired a sitting head coach.

“Today begins the next era of Oklahoma State Football,” Weiberg said. “I am thrilled to introduce Eric Morris, his wife Maggie and their boys Jack and George to the OSU Family. Coach Morris has proven his ability to build and lead winning football programs. He has consistently identified, recruited and developed some of the best players in college football.”

OSU said Coach Morris has coached, developed or recruited quarterbacks including Patrick Mahomes, Baker Mayfield, John Mateer, Cam Ward and more.
