BAPD asking for tips related to 2021 homicide investigation

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — The Broken Arrow Police Department is asking the public to send in any tips that may help solve a homicide from 2021.

Four years later, the Broken Arrow Police Department is hoping new information could help them solve the murder of 72-year-old Linda Davenport.

On Nov. 14, 2021, the Broken Arrow Police Department responded to a home on South Aspen Court near West Knoxville Street and South Aspen Avenue to conduct a welfare check after a family member reported they hadn’t heard from Linda in several days.

When officers arrived, they said they found evidence someone had forced their way into Linda’s home. Linda was found deceased inside the home from traumatic injuries inflicted by another person.

Police said at the time, there were very few leads or witness accounts.

Captain John Russell with the Broken Arrow Police Department is asking anyone who may have information related to Linda’s homicide, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to reach out to police.

“A lot of times, some of the ways these things are eventually solved or come to light are a witness account that comes up that was reported way later,” explained Captain Russell. “We just want to occasionally take the opportunity—this anniversary felt appropriate—to say hey, if you lived in that area, if you worked in that area, if there was ever anything during that timeline that you saw and did think was out of the ordinary, just bring that up to people and please give us a call. Nothing is too insignificant.”

Captain Russell advises people to consider incidents that happened beyond Nov. 14, 2021, whether they occurred before or after Linda’s death.

“We reported at the time and in our press release a person had been found deceased in their home from an obvious home invasion. A lot of times people think about that specific day, but the victim had not been heard from for three days. We’re asking people to look before that timeframe and maybe after that timeframe and think of something that was out of the ordinary. Someone, again, that lived in that area or traversed through the area and just say maybe there was a car there or maybe they saw somebody walking through the yard at some point or maybe even have heard the name Linda Davenport before then or since then, something that might trigger the smallest thing because a lot of times that’s how these are ultimately solved.”

While BAPD is asking for the public’s help, Captain Russell said that’s only one of the avenues for additional information they’re pursuing related to this case.

“We have been exploring some technical aspects using current technology, also things such as DNA analysis, working with local and federal partners potentially on this and state partners. That can be time consuming, so in the background the investigation has never stopped, but again, as we’ve seen time and time again, just the smallest tip can open something wide open and kind of expedite the situation.”

Captain Russell said he and the other members of the BAPD intend to continue investigating this case until they can get proper justice for Linda and her family.

“Broken Arrow Police, typically public safety, are known for the product they put out. We are not okay with somebody forcing entry into a 72-year-old woman’s home and executing her. We are prioritizing this. We are putting a lot of time and resources into this and we are maintaining that connection with the family and won’t stop until we solve it.”

If anyone has tips or information related to Linda Davenport’s case, BAPD asks that you reach out directly to Detective Mooney at MMooney@brokenarrowok.gov.
