FOX23 spoke with Major Stephen Garrett, who says doing events like this is a part of policing by working to connect with the community and be present.

He says the department routinely does Coloring with a Cop to show kids policing is not all about fighting crime and negative interactions.

Major Garrett says positive interactions help build trust.

“I just like talking to the kids, seeing what is important to them and seeing what they think, make sure we teach them what it is we do in policing. We also need to understand what is important to them, what do they want to know about policing. It is kind of a give and take, we teach them some things and they teach us some things sometime,” said Major Garrett.

Broken Arrow’s new McDonalds’s is located near East 41st Street an South 409th Avenue. You can learn more about the Broken Arrow Police Department by clicking here.
