UPDATE (3/3/26) — Following an investigation, Bartlesville Police have determined the deadly barricade incident on Feb. 28 was a murder-suicide.
The two deceased people have been identified as 37-year-olds Mary Groomes and Justin McIntyre.
This is still an active investigation.
BARTLESVILLE, Okla. — The Bartlesville Police Department responded to a call Saturday morning where a man was reportedly keeping his girlfriend from leaving his home.
Officers arrived at a house near the 1600 block of West 2nd Street and were able to make contact with the man, who was standing inside the front door of his home. Police said the man went further inside the home and barricaded himself inside after they made contact.
Police were told the man may have a weapon and a few moments later, they heard gunshots from inside the home. The Bartlesville Police Department Special Operations Team established a perimeter and crisis negotiators and mental health specialists arrived on scene.
Police said they made attempts at communication for several hours and eventually, contact with the man was lost. Officers made entry after tries at reconnection did not work.
Police found two bodies inside that appeared to have gunshot wounds. Officers said no one else was in the home.
There is no threat to the public, police said, and the situation seems isolated.
This is an ongoing investigation.
