BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — The City of Broken Arrow held its first public education meeting about the upcoming Build Our Future BA GO Bond.
The $415 million bond package is broken up into eight propositions, addressing transportation, public safety, public facilities, stormwater, and drainage.
Propositions 1 through 7 would not raise taxes from what they are now, but Proposition 8 would add a five-year “half a percent” sales tax to fund improvements to the city’s sports facilities.
Mayor Debra Wimpee says the City chose to do it this way to speed up those improvements.
“The reason why we did it in this funding mechanism instead of putting it on the big bond package is so that the people who are voting on it today, their kids, their grandkids, have the ability to actually play on those fields,” Wimpee said.
There are three more public meetings about the GO Bond coming up:
- Thursday, March 12, at Ridge Christian Church.
- Thursday, March 26, at Battle Creek Golf Club.
- Thursday, April 2, at Connect Church.
All of the meetings will start at 6:30 p.m., and election day is Tuesday, April 7.
