The City of Catoosa announced Wednesday that interim Chief Andy Wimberley has officially been appointed as chief of police for the Catoosa Police Department.

Former Chief Ronnie Benight announced his retirement last year due to medical reasons.

Wimberley said, “It is an honor to serve the people of Catoosa as chief of police. I am committed to protecting this community, supporting the men and women of our department, and continuing to build on the progress and growth of the Catoosa Police Department. I look forward to working alongside our officers, city leadership, and community members as we move forward together.”

The CPD has handled some fairly big cases.

One of the biggest cases was in 2023, when flock cameras spotted two murder suspects wanted for the death of an entire family in Illinois.

Chief Wimberley’s appointment was effective on Monday and was formally recognized during the March 17 City Council meeting with a pinning ceremony.

Wimberley was selected from among the finalists after a months-long application and interview process.
