Shepherd’s Cross in Claremore holds living nativity scene

CLAREMORE, Okla. — Shepherd’s Cross in Claremore is holding a living nativity scene with animals and character portrayals.

The sheep and cattle ranch said guests can step back in time and journey with the shepherds for a peaceful reflection upon the original Christmas night during Christmas at the Farm.

Indoor activities include a living manger scene, musical performances, storytelling, an audio-visual story, crafts, coloring contests, tabletop games, the education Farm Museum and Silo, fiber arts demonstrations and the Farm Store.

Shepherd’s Cross said outdoor activities include winter yards game, Christmas lights, wagon rides, tours of the Bible Garden and opportunities to observe the pastoral scene.

Our news partners at FOX23 spoke with Diane Dickinson the Executive Director of Shepherd’s Cross & Heart of the Shepherd.

“There’s so much to do. Of course there’s personal reflection time at the live manger scene, with the scripture reading the background. There are games, outdoor games, indoor games, the hay-maze, Farm Store, with all kinds of wonderful made crafts from about 100 artisans. There’s live music or a story-time that proceeds your entrance to the living nativity,” said Dickinson.

The event will be held Dec. 11- 13 and Dec. 18 – 20, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The final manger scene for each evening begins at 7:15 p.m.

Guests can plan to spend one to two hours at Christmas at the Farm. The event will proceed, even in the case of inclement weather, Shepherd’s Cross said.

“This is an opportunity to visit, the farm, have a peaceful and fun, more laid-back experience. Christmas and this season tends to be so busy and a little bit overwhelming. This is a time to kind of let down, relax and reflect on the true meaning of Christmas,” said Dickinson.

The Farm Store will be open, featuring Made in Oklahoma crafts and gifts. Around 100 artisans provide hand-made items and the store feature’s Shepherd’s Cross’ wool and alpaca yarns products. Farm produced and locally made food items are also available.

The store features hand-made fair-trade products, with 100 percent of the proceeds returning to indigenous people that have made the products.

Admission is donation based and all proceeds benefit missions.

Bundle packages are available, including:

  • #1: Basic Nativity – $5 per person – Includes all donation-based activities.
  • #2: Shepherd’s Journey Package – $9 per person – Includes all donation-based activities plus a wagon ride in a sheep meadow and a take-home Christmas craft.
  • #3: Shepherd’s Journey & Wreath Package – $25 per person – Includes all donation-based activities, wagon ride and DIY take home fresh wreath kit.
