Gold coins valued over $35K anonymously donated to Salvation Army Red Kettle

By Fox23.com News Staff

TULSA, Okla. — The Salvation Army said multiple gold coins, valued over $35,000, were anonymously donated to its Red Kettle at Tulsa Gold & Silver.

The Salvation Army said Tulsa Gold & Silver is a perennial traditional partner in the Red Kettle Drive. The business sets out a Red Kettle each year and matches up to $50,000 of the donations.

Once the coins were found in the kettle, The Salvation Army had Tulsa Gold & Silver give an evaluation of how much the coins are worth.

FOX23 spoke with Major Carlyle Gargis, Area Commander for the Salvation Army, on the donation.

“I believe with the money we have already received from the Tulsa Gold and Silver kettle, that we have met that match of $50,000. So on top of that, Tulsa Gold and Silver will give us another $50,000 to go toward this year’s Red Kettle Drive,” said Major Gargis.

The Salvation Army said around 30 to 55 kettles are set out in the Tulsa area.

“The Salvation Army, though it’s Christmas season, and the Red Kettles are ringing, this is one of our largest fundraisers of the year. This helps provide help, hope and home to those who find themselves most needy in the Tulsa area,” said Major Gargis.

“We don’t know who the mystery donors are, we’ll never know probably, but at least from the Salvation Army, from our hearts and from our people, we just want to extend our incredible gratitude, appreciate and thankful hearts today,” said Major Gargis.
