City of Tulsa reminds residents of emergency preparation

TULSA, Okla. — After the severe weather across Oklahoma yesterday, the City of Tulsa is reminding residents to be prepared.

They say now would be a good time to go over your emergency kit and make sure it is fully stocked in a convenient place that is easy to access.

Here are some of the items the City says you should have in your kit:

  • Water (one gallon per person per day for several days, for drinking and sanitation)
  • Food (at least a several-day supply of non-perishable food)
  • Manual can opener (for food)
  • Battery-powered or hand crank radio and a NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert
  • Flashlight
  • First aid kit
  • Extra batteries
  • Whistle (to signal for help)
  • Moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties (for personal sanitation)
  • Wrench or pliers (to turn off utilities)
  • Local maps
  • Cell phone with chargers and a backup battery
  • Medication
  • Pet food
  • Personal hygiene supplies
