SAND SPRINGS, Okla. — White Rose Partners and Google are set to give a presentation discussing the proposed Project Spring data center at Sand Springs’ City Council meeting on Tuesday.
White Rose Partners will be the developer of the data center, while Google is set to be the end user.
Kyle Schmidt, the President of Sand Springs Alliance, a local organization against the building of the data center, explained what he’s expecting to see at Tuesday evening’s meeting.
“I’m expecting a lot of vague and ambiguous and noncommittal answers to questions is what I’m expecting. The developer and supposedly Google and the City Council are going to give a presentation about the project. If their presentation is anything like the information that was on the mailers that everybody got in their mailbox this week in Sand Springs, I don’t have high hopes. But what we’re really looking forward to is this is really the first shot for the community to get up and speak our piece in front of the whole City Council.”
Schmidt said the announcement of who will be running the data center hasn’t changed his opinion on it.
“It being Google doesn’t move the needle for me. It’s still the wrong place for a data center. They still went about making these plans and moving forward with these plans the wrong way.”
Tuesday’s meeting is one of three meetings in three weeks about Project Spring.
The Planning Commission Meeting for the data center will be held on Jan. 27 and the final City Council vote will be held on Feb. 3.
A representative with Google sent our news partners at FOX23 the following statement:
“We are working closely with a developer, White Rose Partners, to bring the project to fruition.”
Sand Springs City Manager Mike Carter said he would be sending a statement closer to the beginning of the meeting, while White Rose Partners said they intend to send their statement after the meeting is finished.
