INOLA, Okla. — Emirates Global Aluminum (EGA) and Century Aluminum Company announced a joint agreement to build the first new primary aluminum production plant in the United States.
The plant will be built in Inola, Oklahoma, and will be the first of its kind to be built since 1980.
The Inola-based aluminum plant is expected to produce roughly 750,000 tons of metal per year.
“We have made great progress preparing for the start of construction in Inola and welcome Century as a partner in this important project for the future of American industry and now both of our companies,” said Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, CEO of EGA. “EGA’s global skills, technology, and capital are being joined by Century’s deep expertise and experience in the United States. Together we will make a huge contribution to rebuilding American aluminum production for the 21st century.”
The Inola plant will be the largest ever primary aluminum production plant in the country once built. The plant will help to expand the domestic production of aluminum.
Construction is planned to start by the end of this year, with production expected to begin at the end of the decade.
EGA and Century are currently in negotiations with Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO) and the State of Oklahoma for “competitive long-term power supply.”
The hope of the Inola plant is to drive the development of a regional aluminum industry within the state and to create jobs and economic opportunity.
