TULSA, Okla.— Laura Bellis, District 4 Tulsa City Councilor, is bringing a proposal amendment for prohibiting racing in city limits that would see more direct consequences.
On Friday, Bellis posted to her Facebook that she and Tulsa Police Major McCord have been working on a city ordinance amendment proposal that would see the impoundment of vehicles used for racing.
“Racing vehicles, especially motorcycles, have resulted in so many preventable tragedies,” said Bellis. “This policy change is designed to deter and provide a very direct consequence to dangerous driving.”
Title 37, the ordinance Bellis seeks to amend, already outlaws racing in city limits. Bellis’ amendment would change the language of the law slightly to provide stricter guidelines for drivers.
One of the changes would be that racing vehicles will be impounded for three days from when the driver was cited or arrested.

Under this amendment, drivers who go 40 or more miles per hour over the speed limit on interstate turnpikes, and other parts of the National Highway System in the City of Tulsa whether there is posted signage or not will be at risk of being arrested or cited.
Drivers who drive at any speed that is equator more than twice the speed limit in neighborhood and arterial streets in the City of Tulsa are also at risk.
