TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa Public Schools hosted its annual Farm to Market event on Monday.

The event gave elementary students at Eisenhower, Owens, and Lindbergh a hands-on opportunity to learn about agriculture and how food moves from producers to consumers.

TPS Nutrition Educator Janet Anderson said it’s important children understand their food’s journey from farm to market.

“It gives back to the local economy and the community, so they understand that supporting their farmers is a big deal here in Oklahoma,” said Anderson. “We really want to support our local farmers, be it a bee farmer or a dairy farmer. I mean, cattle farming is a big industry and we really need to preserve what we produce here in Oklahoma.”

The event also encouraged kids to drink more dairy and eat more fruits and vegetables.
