TULSA, Okla. — Governor Kevin Stitt discussed his goals for Oklahoma’s future at a Tulsa Rotary Club meeting on Wednesday.
Stitt presented his vision to position the state among the top 10 in job growth, infrastructure, education and more.
Stitt explained some of the progress he’s seen in the metrics he’s been tracking since he entered office.
“Some of the stuff we’re not very good at, some of it we’re average. One thing I’m really proud of, [Oklahoma] was 50th, dead last, when I took over in incarceration rates and we’ve moved the needle. We’re 40th now and I’ve closed two prisons since I’ve been governor, two private prisons. We’re number two in the lowest recidivism in the country. Those are things that people don’t see, but really proud of it. Roads and bridges have been doing really good. We fully funded all of that. Still, just super frustrated that we can’t do better in education. That’s why I think the governor needs more authority. The future governor should be able to appoint the Superintendent of Education, I think that’s the important one.”
