SAND SPRINGS — After Beale Infrastructure recently canceled Coweta’s data center project, KRMG spoke to Sand Springs City Manager Mike Carter about how the data center in Sand Springs was progressing.
“We’re kind of in a holding pattern right now, but we think that the litigation is not something that has a lot of merit to it. So, we’re eager for that to get done so the project can proceed,” Carter said.
Carter told KRMG the city is just waiting for the next step with “Project Spring” due to some of the litigation filed by those opposed to the data center. Carter says he is very optimistic the data center will proceed, and the city council’s decision to green-light the project will greatly benefit the citizens of Sand Springs by collecting $100 Million Dollars in a 25-year span.
“We think at a minimum this is something that will bring in over $100 Million over 25 years,” Carter said.
The funding for most special projects would normally use general obligation bonds, which could affect the tax payer, but this could eliminate that.
Yesterday, Coweta City Manager Julie Casteen announced that Beale Infrastructure pulled its application for the data center “Project Atlas.” She said the company did not give a reason as to why they were pulling out, and she said she didn’t ask. The withdrawal means Coweta lost out on between $3 Million to $5 Million annually. Casteen said this won’t affect anything that was already budgeted for the year, but there were projects they wanted to do, but won’t be able to now.
