SAND SPRINGS — Kyle Schmidt of the “Protect Sand Springs Alliance” says the group will deliver over 1,600 signatures to the city clerk to initiate recall elections for city councilors Cody Worrell, Matt Barnett, and Mike Burdge.
Schmidt says the signatures will be delivered by 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 31.
According to the city charter, after the signatures are delivered, the city clerk has 30 days to verify and certify the results. Then an election date is chosen, and the city councilors will have to run for their seats again, and they could have challengers.
The recall does not remove the councilors from their positions, and you must be a resident of the ward in which you’re seeking a recall. At least 20 percent of the total qualified voters in the ward must sign the petition. Each ward has a different number of voters, which means there would be a different number of signatures for each ward.
The recall is for the city councilors who voted to approve the data center “Project Spring,” which could generate $100 Million in 25 years.
